Following the success of the Philippine Basketball Association bubble, Clark will once again be the host for another basketball tourney we are all waiting for.
The Clark Freeport Zone will be the venue for the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers on June 16 to 21, 2021. Organized by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), the international competition is set to use a sports quarantine bubble approach, which was approved by the Inter Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
FIBA Asia Cup’s games and practice sessions will take place at the Angeles University Foundation–Sports and Cultural Center. The players, FIBA, and the SBP officials will stay at Quest Hotel–Clark, while media personnel, utility partners, and ancillary staff will be accommodated at the Lohas Hotel. Other local staff will also utilize the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) guest houses.
“The staging of the international competition here will strengthen Clark’s position as a preferred Sports Tourism destination not only in the country but also across the Asia Pacific Region,” CDC President and CEO Manuel R. Gaerlan said.
CDC is working in close coordination with different government agencies and venue representatives to ensure the security and safety of all participants and stakeholders. Strict health and safety protocols will also be implemented throughout the games.
There’s no doubt Filipinos are huge basketball fans and the FIBA Asian Cup will surely bring excitement to all sports enthusiasts across the country. Mark your calendars and be ready to cheer for our national team!
