ANGELES City’s Mirjan Hipolito did not waste any second to show her timeless regal and classic Filipina beauty in the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 National Costume presentation at the newly-built Passenger Terminal in Clark International Airport, Pampanga on September 23, 2021.
The theme for this year’s MUPH National Costume presentation is Philippine Carnival Queens; the golden age of grandeur and elegance. The Philippine Carnival Queens-inspired costumes exhibited distinction wherein pageant experts and historians distinguished every detail that reflects different cultures in their costumes. One of the country’s rising Pinoy pop groups BGYO also performed their latest song titled “Kulay,” adding more excitement and color to the show.
Mr. Frederick Policarpio, a distinguished Kapampangan designer, created the elegant and exceptional NatCos gown. It was also carefully adorned with exquisite and artistic beadwork by the well-known Kapampangan doll couturier Mr. Cholo Ayuyao.
Following her grandma’s footsteps
In her Instagram post, Hipolito also shared a photo of her grandmother being crowned as Tarlac Queen in the late 1950s by then Vice Governor Ninoy Aquino.
“I grew up reveling in this photo of my lola. She was crowned as Tarlac’s queen by no (none) other than Ninoy Aquino, then vice governor of Tarlac, in the late ‘50s. We never had beautiful paintings at home. But this photo, preserved in a small wooden frame, has become a staple conversation starter every time we welcome visitors at home. Be it on fiestas, pamamanhikan, and even on simple gatherings, it’s our family’s source of pride,” the caption reads.
